In a world where it feels like every DM band is trying to out heavy each other Ritual Awakening reminded me just how badass this genre is. The riffs the solos the groove all turned up to 11. This album takes me back to when I was a little kid playing with my toys in my room. Trying to find the coolest songs to be the soundtrack to my jedi vs goku vs batman vs ninjas battle. Thanks Edwin for bring back these memories and making me feel like a giddy dorky kid again.

Stuck to his face he cannot remove
The mask and his flesh have become fused!
Scolded embarrassed for child’s play
Fleeing the temple making his way
Embracing the wickedness magic of black
The monks shall burn, be slain by his hands
Building his army from only the worst
Now humans will fear this flesh eating curse
Forcing the maidens into his shrine
The sound screams and tearing
flesh keeps him satisfied
Feeding his Oni one limb at a time
The taste of blood is so refined
But nothing compares to his true love of wine
If A vile death is something you seek?
There in the mountains beyond the gate
HE Awaits! To rip off your fucking face then
gutting your corpse no blood goes to waste
This land will witness the true hell of his being Infinite darkness and a festival human feast!

An eclectic but incredibly well-integrated blend of traditional death metal, melodeath, black metal, progressive, and even a bit of folk (with the added bonus of audible and tasty bass guitar). The album has a consistent, pulverizing momentum punctuated by the rare acoustic passage or catchy chorus/refrain. Overall an unbelievably mature first offering from an up-and-coming band to watch.
