Intruder unleashed their fantastic debut "Dangerous Nights" (ESM 037) in November, 1998 and caused a big stir in melodic rock circles. The founder member and songwriter, George Karak, has a long history on the New Jersey circuit. He was around in the Power Station years when Jon Bon Jovi was recording his first album, in fact George co-wrote the album opener "Runaway" with Jon for his debut. George has since been active on the New Jersey scene and has worked with countless musicians and projects over the years. Now he has teamed up with Stephen DeAcutis (Pod, Arcara) and three members of Shotgun Symphony, namely Tracy White, Ed Avila and Ron Sivulich, Jr.
The debut album "Dangerous Nights" has since been hailed as a classic, with its strong harmonies and tight musicianship. It was a dream come true for lovers of early Bon Jovi, Survivor and Shotgun Symphony. A difficult job was ahead for the band to come up with something better, but they have just done exactly that. Once again Steve DeAcutis has used his technical skills to produce, engineer and mix the CD, and what a job he has done. His has brought out all the qualities you would expect from the pedigree of musicians involved.
"Believer" is a creative step forward, and the sound is so big. Opener "One Night of Love" is like a breath of fresh air and has all the ingredients of perfection. Massive harmonies and those unmistakable vocals belonging to Tracy White, a finer start you could not wish for. Before the dust has time to settle we are thrown into the raucous "Stay", which has a distinct Journey feel to it. You could be easily fooled into thinking that "Losing You" was a ballad, but the intro is a decoy and the song soon crescendo's into a momentous piece of melodic rock. But just wait until you hear "Runaway 2000", an absolutely stunning version of the song made famous by Bon Jovi. The structure is entirely at variance to the Bon Jovi version, a different version, and a better version. And then comes "Faithful Love", a more melodious song you will not find this year, the mid-section is pure genius of guitar, keyboard and vocal harmony. The pace is slowed down a touch for "You take the chill" and "Make it last forever", the latter a beautiful ballad sung with passion. "The love we had" and "Down on Love" have a feel of Survivor crossed with Shotgun Symphony, whilst "Under my Skin" and "Halfway Home" have the qualities you would, by now, expect of Intruder. The final blast of "19 and Ready" is an amazing way to finish the album; the guitar onslaught of Stevie D will destroy your speakers and have you begging for more.
