| Jesu - InfinityYear: 2009 Style: Drone/Doom Metal/Shoegaze/Post-Rock Country: UK Format: Flac+Cue+Log Size: 288mb
Tracklist: 01. Infinity
Total Time: 49:30
Состав: Justin Broadrick - All instruments, Vocals, Lyrics
Review: This album could be summed in very few words. Something along the lines of: One hell of a long trip. The supermassive track starts off with a keyboard intro which is quite reminiscent of the "Burzum Effect" (that would be a repetitive, trance-inducing melody droning for a good few minutes). Once the actual song starts, one will immediately notice it's very heavy, doomy and repetitive, a very distorted guitar displaying a riff with some backup guitar and keyboards, almost lulling the listener into a state of relaxation which is complimented by the softly chanted vocals.
After a good 8 minutes it gets a bit more complex. Vocals are still way behind in the mix, which along with the heavy distortion and slow paced drumming gives off a shoegazey feel at times (which is good by my standards). About 11 minutes in things get suddenly chuggy, then everything slowly progresses like a big musical lava slide into different variations of riffs, going from riff to riff to riff until past the 15 min. mark, harsh vocals appear and everything gets a bit more aggressive, while a good share of keyboards make sure the ambiance is not broken at any moment.
Almost half way into the track, and after a drone-y fade out, keyboards are left to themselves for a while, before a big wall of feedback welcomes you to the second half of the track, which starts off with an even doomier parade of riffs, evolving in a Boris-esque slow-paced jam session which goes on and on, with heavy drone overtones in between the progressive-doom (is that even a real genre?) jams and even some psychedelic overtones (maybe it's just me). This is probably the best and most trance-like section of the track. It's quite relaxing and unsettling at the same time, and even though it's almost 25 minutes long, it goes by rather quickly.
A spacey-noise fade out bids us adieu and the 40+ minute odyssey is over. Now, this album is definitely not their best work ever, but that doesn't mean this is not one huge, massive, solid effort. Worth a good listen (weed helps a lot).
