Backup is spawned in La Tuque, a small pulp and paper, huntin' and fishin' city in northern Quebec. The year is 2002 and Max Blanchette suffers from stage lust, having played in some punk bands before. To cure his boredom, he buys a drum kit with the idea to start a band. He gets things rolling with a friend, Martin Bernier, on guitar. After some losing some time looking for a vocalist and bassist, Martin volunteers to beat the bass and they ask another friend, David Langlois, to bring his vocalist and guitar skills to the band. They practise punk and hardcore in Max's basement and soon enough, the gigs come along. They then move on to creating their own material. In the meantime, Eric-Daniel Bouchard joins up as a second axe. Eventually, he takes over as main guitarist, as David focuses his attention on being a front man/vocalist. He continues to play guitar during practices, to help with material. As time goes on, Martin leaves the band, and Yvan Ouellet steps in to take over the low frequencies. Backup soon plays their first gig with completely original material. By the end of 2004, with the help of Claudey Scarpino, they record their first eleven song demo, "Burning Lies". Fast forward, a year later, and things get a little bumpy. By the end of October, 2005 Max and David find themselves alone, after the departure of Yvan and Eric. Nevertheless, the success of Backup keeps them moving forward, and they have a gig scheduled for Novembe …origin
