The term “Littu” in the Sardinian language is used to represent the dense forest of the island. It’s commonly used in the mountainous areas of the region, mainly in Barbagia and Ogliastra.
Still today, we can find ancient holm oak trees, such as the giant ‘Sa Melabrina’ downy oak which is likely to be the oldest in Europe, dating back millennia. These alone are a testament to today's natural wealth of the landscape, representing the tangible echo of the immense forest that covered the island until the 18th century.
The symbiosis of the vast forest and the abundant fauna which envelops it, harmoniously united as one, has been home to various populations of the world since ancient times. In turn, becoming a ‘natural home’ providing food, shelter, peace and slowness, spiritual and ritual connection.
The sheer beauty of these natural landscapes are capable of inspiring artists, being a muse for creative ideas and their works. Whether they are paintings for a painter or images for photographers.
Littu was born from the fascination aroused by the vision, the contact, the silence, the colours and the monuments admired during walks in the green areas of Sardinia. /bc
