Aenima is a Portuguese dark wave, rock band formed in Almada in 1997. The name of the band is a play on the Latin word anima, meaning "soul". The band is notable for its guitar-based ambient sound and clear female vocals.
Critics quite often compare the band to Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance.
Aenima was founded by guitarist and producer Rune Eriksen (previously with Millennium) and vocalist Carmen Susana Simões (previously with Poetry of Shadows and Isiphilon). They soon added bassist Paulo, guitarist Nor and drummer Hugo to their line-up. Carmen was the band's main lyricist during her years with Aenima.
Aenima's debut LP album, Revolutions, was released in 1999 by the Symbiose label. Originally the band was signed for a two-album deal, but their record label soon went out of business, so Aenima had to look for another publisher.
The follow-up record, Never Fragile, was released by Equilibrium Music in 2002. With its 6 tracks, Never Fragile is considered to be an EP or maxi-single. It was highly praised by critics.
In 2003, Aenima released their second full-length album, Sentient, via the US-based Middle Pillar Presents label, becoming the first European act to be signed by the label.
Carmen left the band after Sentient was released. She was soon replaced with a new singer, Susana, a graduate of Lisbon Conservatory. As of 2007, the band was working on recording their new, yet-unnamed album
/ AENIMA's debut, "Revolutions", caused quite an impression on both press and fans, who were unanimous in their praise when it came to live shows as well. The band have been compared in the past to the likes of Cocteau Twins, The Gathering, The Third and the Mortal, Faith and the Muse or Dead Can Dance, and now "Never Fragile" brings forth a sharper side of AENIMA, properly seasoned after outstanding live appearances in notorious international festivals such as the M'era Luna Festival, in Germany. Although they have hardly dropped the ethereal moods of their debut album, AENIMA have improved their recipe which bridges the gap between a clever use of technological artefacts and conventional rock compositions with a skilled use of melody, groove and ambience.
"Forlorn" opens in a mournful, dirge-like manner, and gradually climbs to its zenith, with the female vocals voice rising from lament to crystal clear soprano tones. Drums and bass provide an escort in her grievous march, clad with a veil of twinkling guitars and subtle keyboard undertones, as opposed to the heavier posture found in "At the Edge of a Cliff" with its hard, distorted, guitars.
"The Light", perhaps the disc's most easily memorable track, has been used as the closing track for the band's set at the M'era Luna performances and shows AENIMA's brighter face, with an approach that seems to draw some Pop sensitivities to their dark rock, which acquires a more introspective and melancholic tone again for "Lilith".
Last but not least, "Rapture" begins in a rather celestial mood, and leads AENIMA through a slightly more synthetic path to close up "Never Fragile".

Многоуважаемый avant67, отзыв про качество не в упрёк релизеру, (большое СПАСИБО за ознакомление). Писал для пользователей которые могут почувствовать дискомфорт при прослушивании на хай-энд аппаратуре. Сам при наличии 32-битного ЦАПа беру такой жанр в коллекцию лося не ниже 24-бит и потоком не менее 1700 кБт/с. Да, искать и ждать приходится долго, но это того стоит.
А чем собственно не нравятся певцы, по моему здесь подобраны наиболее известные в данном стиле вокалисты, мне лично прокатило, мне вот не нравятся сборники(кроме неизданных ранее песен) сборник я составляю себе сам в принципе на вкус и цвет...ё
Странные люди среди пользователей пападаютя, вы что всерьёз думаете что мы релизеры вот так со студии звукозаписывающего лейбла берем и как горячий пирожок закидываем альбом на сайт? Мы даже не рипуем оригинальный диск, а все берем с муз ресурсов типа разных Дизеров и Амазонов, если есть огромное желание и где то там у вас свербит отсылайте свои претензии им, насчет срезов, спектров, вам что заняться нечем что ли? Это ознакомительный сайт идите в магазин или выписывайте оригинальный диск и там считывайте кГк и разжатки и наконец в данном альбоме принимал участие в его создании ИИ
